Senator Nelson Effiong of Akwa Ibom South senatorial district defected from PDP to APC during Senate’s plenary on Thursday.
He said his reasons was the “division” at the National leadership of the party. “Any politician worth his salt will not stay back in a party that is sinking like PDP" he said.
The Minority Leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, however raised a constitutional point of order telling the Senate that the defection was wrong.
Akpabio said he got information that Nelson was planning to defect and he warned him against doing so.
He told the Senate that the party in Akwa Ibom State will retrieve the seat through court. The matter almost generated uproar in the Senate as some APC senators, especially senator Kabir Marafa went to bring Nelson to the side of APC senators.
