SPI Director, Cromwell
BY ANIETIE ESU

The School to School Peace Initiative (SPI) Nigeria, the anti-cultism group committed to the fight against campus terrorism, examination malpractices and other social vices, says the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, remains the most peaceful polytechnic in Nigeria, describing the institution as a model.

The Executive Director, SPI, Comrade Oliver Cromwell stated this during the conferment of award of excellence on him by the Federated Igbo Students Association (FISA), Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic chapter in recognition of his efforts in fighting the scourge of cultism and all other forms of social vices in the Polytechnic in particular and other institutions in general.

Cromwell said cultism has no role in Akwapoly, noting that examination malpractices was being eradicated in the institution.
While urging the Igbo Students to comport themselves and act in line with the institution’s vision, Cromwell commended the Igbo students in the Polytechnic for not involving in cult activities and called on Igbo students in other institutions to emulate them.
He maintained that the feat has enabled one of them to be elected the vice president of the students union government of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, which he described as unprecedented.
The Security Expert advised Igbo students to be obedient to their lecturers, studious, shun cultism and other vices and continue to support the government of the Rector, Dr Israel Affia and ensure that they become good ambassadors of the institution in particular and Igbo as a whole.

Cromwell, who is also the Security Coordinator of the Polytechnic, assured the students that the institution has made adequate provisions for a hitch –free academic activities and charged them to jealously protect the good image of the institution.
" I enjoin you to shun acts that will put you in trouble; such as cultism, drug addiction, prostitution, examination malpractices and other societal vices”, the SPI boss advised the students.
He said: “In our fight against cultism, we discovered that members of Association of Igbo Students have not been found wanting in cult activities and it is a good one. Probably that was why the Akwa Ibom state students community in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, deemed it fit to elect one Igbo students as the vice president. It has not happened before. It shows maturity. It shows that the Akwa ibom students in Akwapoly are detribalised. You (Igbo students) should maintain this standard and ensure that you don’t get involved in cultism, academic fraud and all other forms of social vices”.

On what the award means to him, Cromwell said, “ Just like every other awards we ( SPI) have gotten from the Ibibio students, Annang students, Oron students and other tribes and associations; it shows that they ( students) appreciate the good work SPI is doing in their schools. Akwapoly has remains the most peaceful Polytechnic in Nigeria and will remains like that. Akwapoly is a model. It has been carved into a model by our (SPI) operatives. Cultism has no role in Akwapoly and academic fraud is almost being eradicated. This award gives me more encouragement to continue to do what we have been doing at the level of campaign against campus terrorism”.
Conferring the award on Cromwell, the President, Federated Igbo Students Association, Akwapoly chapter, Comrade Achonna Obinna commended Cromwell for his students friendly disposition and pledged the support of Igbo students to the group for its fight against campus terrorism and other vices.
Obinna added that the award was in recognition of the philanthropic gestures of Cromwell.
