ATTEMPTED MURDER OF POLICE OFFICER: NAPTIP OFFICIAL ARRESTED

AKS POLICE COMMISSIONER MURITALA MANI
EMMANUEL CHUKWUMA OGBONNA, an official of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), is currently cooling his heels in the custody of the State's Criminal Investigation Department, Ikot Akpan Abia, for alleged attempted murder of a female police officer.
Investigations revealed that, Emmanuel Ogbonna, allegedly broke the jaw of the victim with an uppercut, strangled and left her in coma.

Our findings revealed that prior to the tragic incident, the victim who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police in D division of the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State command, had been in a relationship with the suspect, a NAPTIP officer for some time.
It was gathered that problem started when the lady found out that her NAPTIP officer boyfriend is married to another woman and insisted that she could not marry him as a second wife.
Our reporter divulged that on that fateful day, Emmanuel Ogbonna, allegedly broke into the victim’s house at night, the argument resurfaced with the female police officer still maintaining her position that she will not be a second wife. It was at the height of the argument that Ogbonna, allegedly gave her the beating of her life and took to his heels when the victim collapsed.
In the meantime, when the bizarre news filtered out, some Nigerians who spoke with our reporter, wondered why NAPTIP, which is a foremost crime fighting Agency, would harbour a barbarian as its officer and demanded that the matter must not be swept under the carpet.
As at press time, several phone calls to the State’s Police Public Relations’ Officer (PPRO), ASP Cordelia Nwawe, for response, were not connecting.
