The Nigerian Army on Thursday said only four persons were killed by attacks on two villages by Boko Haram insurgents.
Earlier reports had said 22 people were killed between Monday and Tuesday in the attacks on Dasa and Duwabayi, both in Monguno Local Government Area.
Speaking on the incident, spokesman of the 8th Task Force Division, Monguno, Lieutenant Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu said only four persons were killed.
“There was an incident in two isolated and remote villages, not in Monguno town.
“It is confirmed that our troops on patrol to Zankari, Dasa and Debele villages, all in the hinterland of northern Borno discovered one corpse at Dasa who on close examination was found to have been shot in the neck. Suspecting that it may be due to Boko Haram Terrorists activities.
“The patrol further tracked them to Debele village where 3 other corpses were discovered. The patrol has since been combing the general area to track down any insurgent.”
