Continue Making A'Ibom Proud- NUJ Chairman Charges Daily Detail Newspaper

The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Akwa Ibom State Council Elder Patrick Albert has called on the management of Daily Detail Newspaper to ensure that while they circulate outside the State they operate in a way that will not only give glory to the Newspaper management but will make the State proud.
Elder Albert gave the charge in his office on Monday when management of the Newspaper presented to the Chairman the Award it won in Lagos as Best Regional Newspaper of the Year.

While congratulating the Newspaper management on the feat, the NUJ boss noted that with the award bestowed upon the newspaper, it was clear to the newspapering business community that journalism in the State is vibrant and has the potential to compete favourably with other States.
He commended the management team for their industrious spirit in establishing a regional newspaper that does not only exist among other newspapers, but holds sway to the extend of being recognized for an award.
He added " May this award spur you to effectively capture the entire South South States. Be there prominently on newsstand and move out and represent Akwa Ibom among National Newspapers. With the spirit I have seen, I am quite hopeful that you will make the state proud.
"At the NUJ we are concerned about compliance to ethical rules. Report must be based on truth. Investigation must be conclusive. Characters involved in the investigation must be given fair hearing. Dont forget also that we act as information gate or table to the society. They pick ideas and views from us. So we must endeavour to inform the society effectively. I wish this Newspaper success and hope to see it attain greater heights".
Earlier, the Editor-in- Chief of the Newspaper, Mr. Ndanti Ekuh noted that the reason the management of the Newspaper decided to present the award it won to the Chairman was in recognition of the role his leadership has played in encouraging robust journalism in the State.
He pointed out that with the Chairman's encouragement, the newspaper was able to brace up in expanding its horizon to the South-South region of the Country and were now glad to be recognized in less than a year after birth.
Mr. Ekuh maintained that with the award bestowed upon the Newspaper by the Nigeria Media Award, they were poised on doing their best as it relates to the functions of the media and by extension add glory to the State.

  1. Akwa Ibom NUJ Chairman uses publishers and reporters as collateral to get money from Government and politicians

Thomas Thomas, A senior editor of a popular Uyo-based newspaper (Global Concord) widely regarded for its critical views of the Akwa Ibom State government said that Akwa Ibom State NUJ chairman Elder Patrick Albert Uses Publisher and reporter in the state as collateral to get money from the State Government and politicians.

An unprofessional journalist is not a man or woman who comes out boldly to declare his or her stand, but the one who necodemusly executes hatchet jobs for politicians and government. An unprofessional journalist is not a practitioner who deliberately refuses to join NUJ for obvious reasons, but a man who can’t defend those he swore to defend.

Some days ago, the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, parleyed the media in the State (even though Mr. Albert had conspired with the State Information Commissioner to bar the critical media houses from participating for obvious reasons), and at the end of the parley, the Governor doled out 50 Million Naira to journalists in the State. Out of the said amount, I learnt Mr. Albert reluctantly gave out 100,000.00 each to about 50 Publishers, 50,000.00 each to about 90 reporters, and allegedly coasted home with over 30 Million Naira.
