Dr. Nwankwo |
The Chancellor of Eastern Mandate
Union (EMU), Dr Arthur Nwankwo has made a public statement – Dr Nwankwo has disassociated
himself from the self-acclaimed Reformed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (RE-IPOB).
In a press statement, Dr Nwankwo
declared that he had nothing to do with the group. He also expressed
displeasure over the action of the group, condemning them for involving him in
their affairs, even as he demanded for immediate retraction.
He described the inclusion of his
name as “absolutely scandalous and totally unacceptable”, warning the group
to stop dropping his name and count him out of their affairs.
Nwankwo’s name was listed alongside
14 other prominent Nigerians by the splinter group to negotiate on its behalf
with the federal government. Other prominent names in the list includes former
Imo state governor; Chief Ikedi Ohakim, former Akwa Ibom state governor; Obong
Victor Attah, former minister of information; Professor Jerry Gana and renowned
author; Professor Wole Soyinka.
The new pro-Biafra group emerged
from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and named one Jonathan Kurubo from
Bayelsa state as its leader.
Meanwhile, the Movement for
Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned the inclusion
of its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu as one of those selected to negotiate with
the federal government by RE-IPOB. MASSOB frowned at the decision and
reaffirmed its commitment to continue the struggle for Biafra, adding that the
over 17 years of struggle for the actualisation of Biafra cannot be halted.
